Tessie Cleveland Community Services Corp.

Our mission:  To provide stellar innovative human services that enhance the quality of life

Dear Friends,

These past days have saddened and angered us. We are profoundly dismayed and heartbroken by the senseless death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minnesota police officer. Over the past week, we saw thousands of people across our nation and world engage in nonviolent peaceful protests against systematic racism.

At Tessie Cleveland Community Services, we embrace diversity and focus on equity and safety of our staff and clients. We are committed to ensuring our services are free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, violence, and intimidation. Tessie staff work and live in areas all too familiar with brutality at the hand of those who are here to protect and serve. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we come together as one community and focus on what each of us can do to stop racism and cruel, senseless brutality.

It is important that we embrace each other’s differences, including race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, marital or parental status, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or socioeconomic status.  We must continue to look out for each other, create safe spaces for our youth, and teach our impressionable young people to treat everyone with kindness and empathy.  We must all look for ways to forge the path to live up to the American promise of justice and liberty for all.

- Carolyn Chadwick, CEO

Our response to COVID-19

The safety and well-being of our clients and staff is our primary priority and we recognize the importance of our continuing to provide services during this critical time. As a precautionary measure to help slow the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) virus, Tessie Cleveland Community Services Corporation (TCCSC) will close all of our offices to the public effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020. We will continue to be open for business. Your treatment team will continue to provide you and/or your child with services either in the home, field or via remote telecommunication technology.

Protecting our employees and clients

TCCSC is taking other steps to limit exposure to the virus. We have transitioned all group meetings, including DBT, Parent Support, and Family Night to online video meetings via Zoom. We will limit individuals who can come to the office and have established protocols for those who must come in. We have activate disinfection and appropriate quarantine procedures based on recommendations of public health officials. Staff have been informed to follow CDC safety protocols. The safety of our clients and that of our staff is of paramount importance.

Tessie Cleveland

Our agency is proud to be named for a community leader and organizer, Dr. Tessie Cleveland. When she succumbed to cancer October 11, 2002 she left behind a legacy of leadership and untold contributions to the social work profession. She was recognized for her hard work through the many awards she was given. Dr. Cleveland was a voice for unserved and underserved communities and for her students at Cal State University at Long Beach. Her tremendous spirit is what our current Executive Director admired about his long time mentor and teacher and we are fortunate to be able to continue her work and touch so many lives in her name.
